2005 Auction for AccesSportAmerica
The 2005 Auction for AccesSportAmerica event, which was held on Friday April 8th, at the Millennium Bostonian Hotel in their award winning "Seasons" restaurant, was a great success. As the auction was underwritten and hosted by the Millennium Bostonian Hotel, Patrice Worcester, General Managerall funds raised supported AccesSportAmerica. This 4th annual auction was attended by over 200 supporters and raised over $150,000 which directly benefits AccesSportAmerica and its programs. New to this year's auction was Auctioneer, Tony V, an actor and comedian who has been featured on such programs as "Seinfeld" and "Rescue Me," along with movie appearances in "State and Main, "By the Sea," and others. WCVB-TV's Heather Unruh was first-time host. Her enthusiasm for AccesSport was evident by her comments throughout the evening. There were a wide range of items: from beautiful images of the Tuscan landscape, to jewelry, to unobtainable tickets for special sporting events, to a package deal comprised of a private plane trip thanks to BlueStarJet to a Patriots football game which was snapped up by a group of bidders. The event was enhanced by a specially prepared menu from Seasons Executive Chef Brian Poe.
Auction Committee Chair, Susan Halby, exclaimed: "Each year the event grows, we raise more funds, and the items donated astound us all...imagine a private plane trip to a special event to share with friends or colleagues! We look forward to 2006's Auction!"
About AccesSportAmerica: now celebrating ten years of helping kids and adults of all disability levels attain higher function through a wide range of high-challenge sports, including windsurfing, kayaking, tennis, fitness workouts, and more. AccesSportAmerica was founded by Ross W. Lilley who was inspired by his son Josh's enthusiasm for these activities plus the improvements his son experienced when engaging in these sports using equipment AccesSport has either invented or adapted to provide people with disabilities with greater access to such sports. Josh is now 19 and is AccesSport's "chief test pilot." Now, AccesSportAmerica serves hundreds of people annually through program partnerships with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, the Massachusetts Hospital School, Perkins School for the Blind, and others, where our program is delivered through a growing staff of professionals and volunteers. The program also has grown to include sites in FL, NH, and other states. Further growth is planned into other regions.
