Ashton wins sports award
Judy Ashton of Brookline
received the AccesSportAmerica All-Star Performance Award at the organization's
annual Leadership Luncheon on Nov. 15 at the Millennium Bostonian Hotel.
Ashton said, "After I contracted
West Nile encephalitis, I wasn't even sure I would ever walk unaided.
But my friends at AccesSport had a different vision for me.... I'm
succeeding, doing challenging sports I never even dreamed of participating
in, like windsurfing, snowboarding, playing basketball and tennis and
outrigger canoeing on the Pacific Ocean."
AccesSportAmerica, a national
non-profit organization founded in 1995, is dedicated to the discovery
and development of higher function and achievement for children and
adults with disabilities through high-challenge sports. Programs are
year-round in Massachusetts and Florida, with annual camp programs in
California and Guatemala.
